IGN’s Summer of Games has turned into another summer of layoffs. Sources tell Kotaku that the major gaming website is shedding even more of its top talent, including some of its most public faces, like video hosts Seth Macy and Brian Altano. The latter has worked at IGN since 2009 and has been one of the main hosts of its popular PlayStation podcast Beyond since the departures of Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller and Last Stand’s Colin Moriarty more than a decade ago. Macy was a senior editor on the commerce team at the site and a frequent host of its popular Nintendo Voice Chat podcast. He confirmed his departure in X. IGN did not immediately respond to a request for comment. I’m so sorry to hear this, Seth. The magnitude of the layoffs is not yet clear, although in some cases they may be influenced by employees’ remote status and whether they were willing to relocate. “My team had a great day of content today at IGN, covering the launch of Valve’s Steam Frame. So this seems like a good time to say that I was affected by today’s layoffs,” Bo Moore, senior manager of technology coverage, posted on Bluesky. “My byline only appears on one of the 7 stories we published this morning, but I edited all of them, worked late last week, and logged on early this morning to make sure everything was on track for one of our biggest coverage days of the year.” The latest round of cuts comes just months after a smaller group of employees, including engineers, were laid off just days after IGN Live, the site’s annual event in Los Angeles for Summer Game Fest, concluded. The company had “a habit of making layoffs immediately after a successful event,” a member of the IGN Creators Guild told Aftermath at the time. In addition to IGN Live, the website recently conducted its annual on-site coverage of San Diego Comic-Con earlier this summer with interviews hosted by Altano, among others. Ziff Davis, the site’s owner, acquired several other video game websites in 2024, including Eurogamer and Rock Paper Shotgun, and has been instituting sporadic editorial cuts since then.
