Easily beaten by Calvert-Lewin for Leeds’ second goal, he hit the turf in frustration after the striker beat him for the third and then failed to block Okafor’s fourth. 3Sven Botman: Like Thiaw, couldn’t cope with Calvert-Lewin and was skinned so easily for Leeds’ second goal. 3Lewis Hall: Removed from position in preparation for Leeds’ second goal. Not the night he had in mind after signing a new contract. 4Nico González: He came on late in the 19th minute after the ball hit him in the head in the early stages. 5 Lewis Miley: He could do little to deflect Tanaka’s goal, but he was outplayed by Leeds’ tenacious midfield. He had little time to find his passing rhythm. 4Jacob Murphy: Continued in the absence of the injured Anthony Elanga, but did not offer enough protection and caused Leeds few problems going the other way. 3Yoane Wissa: Created Newcastle’s best chance and at least fought and chased, although his last ball wasn’t always great. 5Harvey Barnes: Has a fearsome record against Leeds and eyes lit up when he danced into the box only to be denied by Trafford. 5Matías Fernández-Pardo: Full debut following his £51.4 million transfer from Lille. He had little to feed on as Newcastle repeatedly played long balls forward. 4Subs: Sean Steur (at 19, Gonzalez): Thrown into the cauldron after Gonzalez left. There was little he could do to deflect the ball before Leeds’ first goal, but he lost the ball in preparation for Leeds’ second.
