The August County Sheriff’s Office said the incident is “contained and secured at this time.” One person may have been injured in the shooting, according to a source who spoke with Fox 57. A Waynesboro Public Schools social media post said police maintain a large presence around the school. The incident occurred just weeks after the first day back to school after summer vacation. The students have been taken to Westminster Presbyterian Church for reunification. Gov. Abigail Spanberger said she was aware of the shooting and is monitoring the incident. “I am monitoring the emergency at Westwood Hills Elementary School this morning. My heart goes out to these young students, their parents and families, and the teachers and staff at the school,” he wrote in a post on X. “Thank you to the first responders who are helping on the scene.”
