Sunday night’s Rams-Broncos game had an interesting postscript that emerged from coach Sean McVay’s postgame press conference. It was brief, mainly because it started and ended before most of the reporters covering the team could get to the press room. On Monday, McVay opened his day-after availability with an apology. “I’m sorry I missed you yesterday,” McVay said, via a transcript provided by the team. “I had been going for a few minutes and there was a misunderstanding with some schedules. Once a question was asked, there was enough silence. [for the press conference to end]. “It was never my intention to miss any of your questions. If there was some kind of misunderstanding, that was definitely not the case. I apologize for that, but [V.P. of communications] Artis [Twyman] It just made me aware of that. I understand my role and responsibilities so I can speak up, whether after a win or if we don’t get the results we want. At least I want to acknowledge that. I know a couple of our reporters just… there was a mix-up with the timing, but I was there for a few minutes. There was a pause in any kind of questions and obviously, [it was an] emotional game. That’s what led to that, but if there was any misinterpretation, I apologize for that.” It’s good that McVay apologized. Still, it’s hard to imagine McVay making a 90-second cameo if the Rams had won the game. We saw and heard a hard-hitting, feisty McVay last December, after a tough, close game against the Seahawks. He’s intense. He’s emotional. Ultimately, he’s human. And while, in most circumstances, he’s able to keep those emotions in check, he may have said something he didn’t mean if he had been given repeated opportunities to talk about some of the calls that were made down the stretch Sunday night.
