Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) moved Tuesday to force a vote to remove Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, targeting a high-profile member of a president’s cabinet from his own party. The Kentucky lawmaker, who read articles of impeachment on the House floor, argued that Hegseth had violated three provisions of the 1973 War Powers Resolution when he carried out ongoing hostilities in Iran without congressional authorization. The House is scheduled to vote Tuesday on a separate Democratic-led resolution to stop President Donald Trump’s execution of the war.
