Bill van Zyll, vice president and general manager of Nintendo in Latin America, has spoken more about physical media and confirmed that there are no plans to get rid of that format. Many know by now that there has been a shift from physical titles to digital ones. On top of that, PlayStation will soon abandon physical games entirely. This has led to many discussions about the future. Fortunately, on Nintendo’s side, there are no plans for significant changes. Zyll said in an interview with Coelho that Nintendo has no plans to get rid of physical releases. He also acknowledged that fans are very interested in that format. His full words are: “Historically, we’ve been very agnostic, right? We focus on what the consumer prefers and we take that into account. We also have a platform that just launched. We’ve only been on NS2 for a little over a year. It has both digital and physical – that capability. There are no plans to get rid of the physical format. We know how much the fans like it too, so our position has been to be agnostic.” On Nintendo Switch 2, the physical format comes in two forms: full cartridge and game key cards. The latter has not been a success among passionate collectors. That said, we hear that game key card sales have increased by 631 percent in the US, so they’re not being ignored. Games distributed by Nintendo have largely been physical titles. However, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition will be a key card in the game. Related
