A 23-year-old woman and her baby were pushed from the balcony of an apartment in New York City on Tuesday, leaving the woman dead and the baby in critical condition, law enforcement sources told NBC News. An NYPD spokesperson said the incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning at 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Bronx. The spokesperson said that upon arrival, the woman and baby had “injuries indicative of a fall from an elevated position.” The mother, whom police did not identify, and her baby were transported to a nearby hospital. The 23-year-old died from her injuries while her baby, who is less than 1 year old and a girl, according to police sources, remains in critical condition. There are no arrests at this time, according to the spokesperson, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police sources say the mother was holding the baby when they were pushed off the balcony. NBC New York reports that police are reviewing video of a person in a hoodie leaving the scene shortly after the crime occurred. The person seen leaving the area is believed to be the person who pushed the couple, according to police sources. However, NYPD detectives are looking to question the 23-year-old woman’s ex-boyfriend, according to law enforcement sources. The sources did not name the man they are looking for. They have not linked the ex-boyfriend to the person who left the area wearing a hoodie. Witnesses reported hearing a disturbance in the woman’s apartment before she fell to her death, according to sources. Police sources said there is a history of domestic violence in the woman’s home. It is unclear how high the woman and baby were before they fell to the ground.
