At least one person was killed and six others were injured in a shooting at an apartment building in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday, according to authorities. The Minneapolis Police Department said two of its officers were among the injured and warned the public to stay away from the area. Police did not immediately say how many people were shot, but Hennepin County Medical Center said it received seven patients, including one who died. No additional information about the other patients’ conditions was immediately released. Video posted on social media showed police pointing rifles at an apartment tower near the Minneapolis Convention Center. Authorities warned residents to avoid the nearby densely populated Loring Park neighborhood. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said in a social media post that state officials are on the ground helping local authorities respond to the shooting. “Grateful to law enforcement who are actively working to ensure the safety of our neighbors in downtown Minneapolis this afternoon,” Walz said. “Minnesota is praying for our first responders.” The FBI is responding to the shooting and “will provide all necessary resources to assist local authorities,” Director Kash Patel said in a post on the social platform X. Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth said she is praying for the victims of “this heinous crime.” “I am incredibly grateful for the massive response from our brave law enforcement officers,” she said in a social media post.
