We’re still a few days away from the debut of Apple’s first foldable iPhone, which, as many have hoped for years, will have a wrinkle-free screen. According to a new report, Google’s Pixel 12 Pro Fold will adopt the same technology as Apple’s foldable. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is, as we mentioned, a perfectly good foldable. But as brands like Oppo, Honor and, more recently, Samsung have gone all-in on wrinkle-free displays, Google’s foldable model is noticeably behind. According to a new report, Google is planning a major update to the Pixel 12 Pro Fold, and they’re not the only ones. The Elec reports that Google, Oppo and Vivo are working with Samsung Display to adopt UTG (ultra-thin glass) dual displays for their next-generation foldable devices. It’s the same technology that will apparently be used in Apple’s first foldable iPhone. Samsung Display and its partners would build the display and UTG assembly to each device’s specifications. This sees a UTG layer on top of the display, with a second layer underneath and supporting the OLED panel. Samsung achieved its crease-free display by using a special titanium plate beneath the OLED panel, while Oppo says it filled in the crease area using liquid 3D printing to create a smooth surface alongside thicker glass.
