Bayern Munich headed to Osnabrück to rewrite the iconic defeat that saw Bayern fall short in a huge upset in 1978. While much has changed since then, the Bavarians were still heavy favorites heading into this match. Luckily, this time Bayern ended up on the good side of history. VfL Osnabrück surprised Bayern early, but it was no cause for panic. The home team opened the game in a rather strange way, which resulted in a special moment for the fans, giving them the idea that the unthinkable could happen. Bayern’s recent elimination from the DFB Cup also caused a moment of horror among visiting fans. However unfortunate a stroke of luck it was, Jonathan Tah botched the clearance, and Jonas Urbig was caught off guard with a long shot, Robin Meißner simply scored a stunning goal, one that will surpass the best from time to time. It was no time to panic and Vincent Kompany’s team did a great job staying calm and on the plan. Tom Bischof’s shooting ability is one of the best in football. You heard right. Tom Bischof has some of the best hitting skills in the world right now. He can shoot from far away, he can shoot from mid-range, and he can also make an accurate shot from close range. The kind of calm he has with his strikes shows experience far beyond his years, and while Kompany shouldn’t rush him into starting as a striker, he is an incredibly versatile option in midfield. Jonas Urbig missed an opportunity. Did Jonas Urbig have a bad game? Not necessarily. But the fact is that Urbig is getting fewer opportunities than he deserves at the moment and, with that in mind, it seems like he has to prove himself in every game. Unfortunately, the first goal caught him very off guard and he never got the chance to prove himself later in the match. Urbig is still destined for big things, but he’ll have that goal on his mind for a while. Michael Olisé will go down in history as one of the best footballers of the generation. Watching Olisé play is a truly special gift. There are simply very few players who have ever played who are as talented as the Frenchman. This isn’t exactly a new observation, but sometimes you just have to restate the obvious. There is no one in the world who can doubt his talent, and Bayern Munich need to give a big raise to the scouts who convinced the club to sign him from Crystal Palace. Convincing him to stay long-term is another matter, but hopefully one the club won’t have to worry about for a long time. For now, enjoy one of the most talented players in history.
