GTA VI keeps leaking ahead of its gameplay premiere

Clips from what appears to be Grand Theft Auto VI have hit the internet, possibly spoiling aspects of the game ahead of Rockstar Games’ deep debut on Netflix next week and its long-awaited release in November. I’ve seen three clips apparently showing the game, although two have been removed from the site I watched them on “due to a copyright claim.” The first clip (now deleted) was a quiet scene that focused primarily on Jason Duval, one of the game’s two protagonists, shooting a basketball into the hoop. Another clip (also deleted) featured more of the crime-focused gameplay you’d expect from GTA, including Duval beating a person with a wrench, and also showed off the return of a six-star Wanted system. A third clip, which is live as I write this, shows Duval driving at night, hitting some people, using a Taser, and stealing a truck. The clip then jumps to what appears to be a scene from a different part of the game during the day. The videos were watermarked by a person or group identifying themselves as “CyberLeek.” The third clip has a call for viewers to purchase a CyberLeek cryptocurrency, a QR code, links to some CyberLeek URLs that appear incomplete, and a statement that reads “NO PHYSICAL DISCS? THEN MORE LEEKS!”, which is apparently a reference to Rockstar’s decision not to release GTA VI on a physical disc. This is not the first time that apparent images of GTA VI have been leaked. In 2022, 90 videos were leaked online long before the game’s official reveal more than a year later (a reveal that also leaked, prompting Rockstar to release the game’s first trailer a day earlier). A teenager who played a key role in the leak of the 90 videos has been sentenced to life in prison in a secure hospital. Rockstar also confirmed earlier this year that it had data compromised in a hack from a third-party vendor, but said the incident would have “no impact on our organization or our players.” Rockstar and owner Take-Two did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The GTA VI “extended look” premieres on Netflix on August 27 at 3 pm ET and will stream on YouTube at 9 pm ET. The $79.99 title is scheduled to release on November 19, and for the most part, the industry stays away from November and releases its big games earlier in the year.
