By Adam Lucas1. Carolina led all the way, posting a 109-70 victory over Wofford to move to 2-0 on the season.2. The story of that game was the bench. With Carolina building an early lead and holding it, Michael Malone was able to give the reserves plenty of playing time. And they responded, racking up 58 points and almost beating Wofford on their own. Five of the six players who played the most minutes came off the bench. 3. It is difficult to choose a standout player off the bench, because everyone contributed, but Máximo Adams was excellent. Sean May said Monday night that the Heels needed Adams to be more active on the glass. He took it seriously and recorded the first double-double of his career with 11 points and 11 rebounds.4. Jaydon Young also had a big shooting day, hitting four 3-pointers and scoring a UNC-high 15 points. 5. After making more than half of its field goals from three-point range on Monday, Carolina’s offensive approach changed dramatically on Friday. The Heels made just eight 3-pointers of 32 field goals in the first half and finished the game just 25 of 73 from long range. 6. The Heels announced on the first possession of the game that this was going to be a different performance than Monday night’s win over Western Carolina. Jarin Stevenson took the ball directly to the rim on the first opportunity and performed a two-handed dunk through contact. That set the tone for an aggressive and brave outing. Stevenson scored ten points and three rebounds.7. It was also the best overall outing (if it’s starting to seem like almost everything was fine, that’s because it was) for Terrence Brown in his very young UNC career. The shooting guard scored a team-high 21 points, was 7-for-11 efficiently and had only one turnover. As a team, Carolina had just seven turnovers as they continue to perform well in an area that Malone emphasizes.8. Carolina’s transition game was the best of this young year. The Heels scored 24 points in the first eight minutes of the game and ended up in Bojangle’s territory. That included 20 fast break points.9. UNC’s bench was a big part of that first half performance. The reserves contributed 21 points (Alex Samodurov scored nine and totaled 13 in the game) and 14 rebounds (Maximo Adams scored seven, including two offensive ones). Angelo Brizzi also added some energy and scored +21 in the match.10. Carolina has now won 20 consecutive games at the Smith Center. It is the 10th longest home winning streak in program history. 11. Some people just know how to handle a microphone and you can put Roger Ayers in that category. When the referee was reviewing a body check by Wofford’s Cam Lowe in the first half, Ayers completed the review by grabbing the microphone in the arena and announcing, “After review, it was an obvious and flagrant foul.” You have to appreciate honesty.12. The “We want Holbrook” chants began with 3:26 left in the game, and Malone quickly complied. He inserted Holbrook almost immediately and the Hickory native delivered with a .13 rebound. The Heels return to the Smith Center on Tuesday night against Wyoming. It will be Carolina’s 600th game at the Smith Center.
