Future iPhones will have one less button, new rumor claims

Apple introduced the Action button with the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro still has it. Now, a tipster on Weibo claims that the company plans to combine the Action button and Camera Control into a single button on next year’s iPhones. The dedicated Action button will supposedly start disappearing from new iPhones in the second half of 2027. Its functions will move to the Camera Control, with a single press opening the Camera app and a long press activating the shortcut assigned to the Action button. The tipster specifically emphasizes that what disappears is the Action button, not the camera key. The post doesn’t name any models, so it’s unclear if this would apply to the entire fall lineup or just a portion. Either way, the claim is that Apple will remove a physical button without abandoning its customizable features. We previously heard that next year’s Pro models could feature a more substantial redesign, with quad-curved displays to be tested in prototypes. It remains to be seen if the rumored button change is part of that redesign. Source (in Chinese)
