DALLAS – Four people were killed and approximately 15 others were injured during three separate shootings in the Deep Ellum entertainment district in the early Sunday morning hours after the Halloween festivities, according to the Dallas Police Department. Halloween shootings in Deep Ellum What we know: Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux detailed the chaos during a news conference Sunday morning, describing a complex and evolving investigation as detectives work to establish whether the three incidents were connected. “Right now, in total, we have four people who have died at three different scenes, and we have approximately 15 others who have been injured,” Comeaux said. He noted that the number of injured remains variable, as several victims self-transported themselves to local hospitals after the violence. Investigators currently have no evidence to indicate the three shootings are related. The violence unfolded over a period of time, with shootings occurring approximately 30 minutes to an hour apart throughout the Deep Ellum neighborhood. Authorities have not revealed the specific addresses of the three crime scenes, citing the ongoing nature of the process, but confirmed that everything took place within Deep Ellum. Despite the violence, Comeaux praised officers for their quick response time and noted that extra patrols had been deployed in anticipation of large Halloween crowds on Saturday night. What they say: “We had all the necessary personnel here,” Comeaux said. “We looked at the plan. We knew it was Saturday night. We knew it was Halloween, so we had the right personnel.” In one case, officers located less than two blocks away ran directly toward the sound of gunshots and arrived almost immediately. Officers performed life-saving measures at the scene and successfully revived at least one injured victim, according to the chief. Police have made arrests and are interviewing several people as they work to determine their possible connections to the shootings. Detectives are also questioning witnesses and actively searching for more suspects. What’s next: Investigators plan to conduct door-to-door canvasses at local businesses to collect surveillance video and review footage from area cameras. Police appealed directly to the public for help, urging anyone with photos, videos or social media clips from the area to come forward. “This is completely unacceptable for this to happen in Dallas, and we will do whatever it takes to arrest everyone responsible for this,” Comeaux said. Crime scenes are expected to remain active throughout Sunday as evidence technicians gather casings and process areas.
