EA Sports Announces Return of ‘Fight Night’ Boxing Video Game, ‘The Fight Is Never Over’

Retro gaming fans got a treat on Tuesday. EA Sports announced that it is reviving its famous Fight Night video game series, declaring: “The fight never ends.” Fight Night followed EA Sports’ previous boxing series, Knockout Kings, and had five editions produced for various platforms between 2004 and 2011. The series was critically acclaimed and a staple at the top of the sales charts. Insider Gaming’s Mike Straw reported last month that sources said there are plans for a Fight Night reboot to be cancelled. However, the sale of EA Sports to a group led by the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia left some hopes alive due to the PIF’s “significant involvement in boxing.” The return of Fight Night comes during a boom period for video games. EA Sports already revived its college football series and launched the sixth edition of its UFC series earlier this year. Rockstar’s highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is arriving next month and has reportedly already generated over $600 million in pre-sales alone. EA Sports was also influenced to bring back Fight Night after seeing the popularity of the boxing video game Steel City Interactive Undisputed, which was the first licensed boxing game since the last Fight Night release in 2011. Fans will surely be excited to see the continued development of EA Sports’ Fight Night reboot ahead of its long-awaited release.
