Sean McVay: Field goal unit “cost us the game tonight”

The Rams fell to 2-3 on Monday night, due in part to a pair of missed field goals by kicker Harrison Mevis, including a blocked field goal in overtime that, had it been good, would have won the game. After the game, Rams coach Sean McVay pointed the finger directly at the field goal unit after the 38-35 overtime loss: “It cost us the game tonight,” McVay told reporters. McVay then said, “I’m going to evaluate everything.” Last year, McVay fired special teams coordinator Chase Blackburn after Thursday night’s overtime classic in Seattle. This time, several people should be a little nervous about the possibility of receiving the dismissal letter. Time is running out. The next game is Sunday, against the Cardinals. After that, the Rams visit the Raiders, followed by a home game against the Chargers. They are all winnable, which could push the Rams to 5-3. Still, 2-3 (and 1-3 in primetime) is a far cry from where anyone thought the Rams would be after Week 5.
