In a blog post this week, WhatsApp confirmed that it is rolling out four new features designed to make it easier to manage group chats and keep track of what’s happening in each one. Here are the details. Four new features coming to WhatsApp group chats WhatsApp announced this week that the filter drawer, which appears when users swipe down the conversations list, will now include a “Mentions & Replies” button along with other filter options such as Groups, Favorites, Unread, and custom filters. Once tapped, the chat list will show only “unread group conversation”.[s] where you’ve been mentioned or received a direct reply, including @all messages,” WhatsApp says. Additionally, WhatsApp will now allow users to pin messages indefinitely in group chats, rather than choosing between 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days. Another chat feature coming to groups is the ability to “retroactively send someone recent messages after they’ve joined a group by simply tapping their name in the chat.” Previously, this was only possible when adding someone to a group, instead of after you had joined. Finally, WhatsApp is rolling out group status sharing, which allows users to post updates visible only to members of a specific group. Other members can view, react to, and add their own statuses, which disappear after 24 hours, all four features may take some time to become available to everyone.
