Vivo’s X Fold 6 accidentally feels like a throwback

It’s a quirk of the launch schedule that when Vivo’s X Fold 6 launched in China in June this year, it was just another foldable device. Now that it’s ready for global release, the size and aspect ratio seem oddly dated. The The 6.51-inch clamshell display has the standard smartphone aspect ratio of 20:9 and opens to a nearly square 8.02-inch panel. The crease is a little behind its rivals, as it is quite visible, and the IP59 rating is good but not great. Where the X Fold 6 stands out is its cameras. The 1/1.4-inch, 200-megapixel main camera sensor is one of the largest on any foldable phone (only Huawei uses a larger one) and is paired with a 50-megapixel telephoto lens and ultra-wide cameras that also look decent. The 6,900 mAh battery isn’t bad either, with a custom “Super Edition” of the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 taking charge. The phone will now launch outside of China, although Vivo didn’t tell me the price or specific markets in advance; I will update this article once I have them. I have a few phones on my desk at the moment (literally, it’s a mess), but I hope to test this camera properly when I can, as it should be better than almost any other foldable camera.
