Trump in Georgia, Michigan this weekend ahead of 2026 midterm elections

1 hour ago Cruz and Paxton warn Texas Senate race will decide control of Congress: ‘I’ve never been more scared’ Republican leaders rallied conservative voters in Texas on Saturday, warning that the state’s high-stakes U.S. Senate race serves as the last national firewall against a far-left takeover in Washington. Speaking alongside Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Republican Senator Ted Cruz laid out the stark risks facing the nation. “I’m scared about an election in Texas and a national election,” Cruz said, arguing that political realignment between the parties has changed the fundamental debate in American politics. “This is no longer a battle between left and right. This is not a battle between liberals and conservatives. This is a battle between sane and crazy,” Cruz said. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., added that if President Donald Trump “doesn’t get Ken Paxton, he probably won’t have a Republican majority.” “You won’t be able to have conservative judges. You won’t be able to protect Texas from people like Schumer and, for that matter, Elizabeth Warren,” Issa said. Paxton also criticized his Democratic opponent, Texas State Representative James Talarico, as a radical Democrat in the style of the Democratic Socialist mayor of New York. Zohran Mamdani and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y. “No matter how many commercials lie about his record, James Talarico is a Democratic Socialist, just like AOC and just like New York Mayor Mamdani,” Paxton said. “In fact, in his own words, Talarico called Mamdani a model for future American politicians. This is a guy from Texas, supposedly. Darrell, California already has two senators. “You all agree that this guy is that,” Paxton added. Cruz warned that a Senate controlled by Democrats and led by Chuck Schumer would lead to a complete legislative gridlock, a suspension of judicial and Cabinet confirmations, and a “circus of continued subpoenas and investigations” targeting the administration. “Yes “We lose Texas, we lose America,” Paxton said, urging voters not to wake up after the election to find “a Marxist, a guy who says we need to dismantle capitalism like our U.S. senator from Texas.”
