Online multiplayer shooter Wardogs went into early access on Steam last week and has been a huge success. It sold over 1 million copies at launch and continues to rank incredibly high on the concurrent users list. What is Wardogs? Wardogs is a military-themed first-person shooter that places you on a large-scale map where 100 players, divided into three teams, fight to occupy the Control Zone. The Control Zone is a 2×2 km zone located randomly within the large map. The team with the most players inside the Control Zone wins points and the first team to accumulate 100 points wins. The game has all kinds of weapons and military vehicles that you can equip, but adding them to your loadout for a given match costs money. Each player starts with $10,000, an amount that can go up or down depending on how you play. Editor Team17 says: “Every teamplay action you perform rewards cash, from reviving your squadmates, transporting friends to the zone, or controlling the objective.” You can build fortifications to help strengthen your team’s position on the map. But the enemy can also destroy your base if he has the firepower to do so. For now, Wardogs is only for PC. It’s still in early access, so you can expect it to look a little unfinished and change over time. But if this kind of take on the online shooter genre sounds like your cup of tea, now is a great time to jump in, especially since you don’t have to pay full price.
