S&P 500 futures rose 0.3%, while Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.49%. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures advanced 105 points, or 0.2%. In Asia on Friday, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was little changed, mainland China’s CSI 300 gained 0.16%, while Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 added 0.64%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index rose 1.4% in its last hour of trading. SpaceX shares rose 2% in extended trading after the rocket company announced a deal to buy a nationwide portfolio of spectrum. Shares of AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile fell as investors worried the deal could increase competition. AI shares fell on Thursday after CNBC confirmed that OpenAI had told investors it had made $50 billion in annualized revenue as of the end of September. A figure of $68 billion was widely reported last month, although a person familiar with the matter said it also included the partners’ gross income. CoreWeave fell more than 7%, while Oracle, Intel and Super Micro Computer lost around 5%. Advanced Micro Device fell about 4%, while Nvidia lost almost 3%. “If we have several days like this… we could see a real drop in AI-related names,” Kristina Hooper, chief market strategist at Man Group, said on CNBC’s “Closing Bell: Overtime.” “That could hurt investors.” The Nasdaq Composite fell more than 1%, marking its biggest daily loss since mid-August. Thursday marked the second straight day down for the tech index after it hit new all-time highs earlier in the week. The tech sector’s woes dragged the S&P 500 to a 0.5% loss, marking its second straight day in the red. But the blue-chip Dow bucked the downtrend, and the 30-stock index ended the session slightly above the level. The Dow and Nasdaq Composite are stable for the week to date. The broad S&P 500 is on track to post a 0.6% gain for the week. Investors will be keeping a close eye on Delta Air Lines’ earnings before the bell rings on Friday. Data on consumer confidence for October are also expected in the morning.
