September 2026’s State of Play ended with an extended look at Square Enix’s Final Fantasy VII Revelation, but it was a stream dominated by no-shows and fan calls for Destiny 3. Highlights included an extended clip from Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie, the reveal of two new limited-edition DualSense wireless controllers inspired by GTA 6, and the announcement of the Crimson Desert DLC. We also got the surprise announcement of Maneater 2. Meanwhile, Until Dawn 2, Metro 2039, and Final Fantasy VII Revelation all got release dates, but there was disappointment over various no-shows from PlayStation Studios. For example, Sony Santa Monica’s God of War Laufey, due out in February, was nowhere to be found. Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet did not appear. And what’s going on with Media Molecule, Sony Bend, and Haven’s Fairgame? After State of Play ended, we went straight to State of Play Japan, where we got an in-depth look at Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara. Ghost of Yōtei: Echoes of Sekigahara State of Play Japan introduced a new look at the Ghost of Yōtei story expansion, Echoes of Sekigahara, launching on October 1, 2026 as part of the Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition. Daba: Land of Water Scar PlayStation’s China Hero Project has unearthed the action game Daba: Land of Water Scar. This soullike tells the story of a humanoid-looking puppet who explores an ancient city. Noir Sticking with Konami, we got a closer look at Rev. Noir, who also appeared in State of Play. It will be out in 2027. Rhapsody in Scarlet Expanded Skin Konami’s Rhapsody in Scarlet, announced at State of Play, got an expanded skin at State of Play Japan. It’s set in 1920s New York, with music as a big focus. It is an action game with fast-paced combat. You play as a mage named Ellie who incorporates magic into combos. There are also Beast abilities. A story trailer focused on the use of magic and how it could end up causing problems for a mysterious mafia. Conq: Crown of No Quarter RevealThe dark fantasy tactical action video game Conq: Crown of No Quarter will be released in 2027. SlashZero, the side-scrolling cyberpunk roguelike action game from SlashZeroStreetlamp Studio, will be released in Spring 2027. The demo will be available later today. It features over 10 hours of gameplay.Stupid Never DiesGPTRACK50 Inc.’s original zombie action game, Stupid Never Dies, has a demo featuring the first two hours and you can transfer your save.Gundam Rogue Orbit Expanded LookState of Play Japan presented an expanded look at Gundam Rogue Orbit, including customization options.Where the Seeds FallCygames announced CygamesEdge, a smaller-scale development effort. Their first game is Where the Seeds Fall, an action-adventure game focused on verticality where you must reach the ground from a great height. It will be released on November 5, 2026. Rematch collaboration with Blue LockSloclap announced a revenge collaboration with Blue Lock, which begins on September 24. Blue Lock is a football anime, and characters like Yoichi Isagi, Meguru Bachira, Seishiro Nagi, and Rin Itoshi are included in the crossover. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World We’ve got a new look at Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World and a villain who sounds a lot like he’s voiced by Neil Newbon, the actor who played Astarion in Baldur’s Gate 3. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance Monster Hunter boss Ryōzō Tsujimoto appeared on State of Play Japan to go into more detail about the upcoming Monster Hunter Wilds expansion, Ascendance. We saw new monsters, including the new Elder Dragon, Gundorag. Tsujimoto released more information on that soon. The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes got its first trailer at State of Play Japan. Fate/Extra Record Next up for State of Play Japan was Fate/Extra Record, coming to PS5 and PS4 on January 28, 2027. Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 The first game included in State of Play Japan was Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, coming out in 2027. The new trailer is below. That’s the end of State of Play, but we’ve got more from State of Play Japan… State of Play ended with an extended look at Final Fantasy VII Revelation, which means no update for Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. Other absences included Media Molecule, Sony Bend and Haven Studio’s Fairgame. Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release Date Final Fantasy VII Revelation ends the remake trilogy on April 8, 2027. State of Play delivered a new trailer and 10 minutes of new gameplay footage. GTA 6 Dualsense Controller GTA 6 featured in State of Play via a DualSense controller. That partnership between Rockstar and PlayStation is certainly working! Two new limited edition DualSense wireless controllers inspired by GTA 6 are in the works: DualSense Wireless Controller – Grand Theft Auto VI Black Limited Edition; and the DualSense Wireless Controller – Grand Theft Auto VI White Limited Edition. Both limited edition DualSense wireless controllers will launch on November 19, priced at $84.99 USD/¥12,480 (tax included)/€84.99/£74.99. Pre-orders begin September 10 at 10 a.m. local time. Firesprite’s Until Dawn 2 Until Dawn 2 got a new trailer in State of Play. Stunning character models feature realistic faces in various states of terror. Coming to PS5 on January 26, 2027. Gran Turismo 7 UpdateGran Turismo 7 will receive a big update. Creator Kazunori Yamauchi took to State of Play to reveal all the details, and the Spec IV update will be released at the end of the year in two parts (October and December). from fans for a new sequel to the survival horror series. The release in the games catalog is Pigeons at Play’s Mycopunk.Rhapsody in ScarletMore from Konami: here is Rhapsody in Scarlet.Rev. NoirWe take a new look at Konami’s upcoming RPG, Rev. Noir, which will run on PS5 Pro. It will be out next year. Three indie games coming to PlayStation State of Play introduced three new indie games coming to PlayStation: Hunter’s Moon; The Annapurna Canyon; and Double Fine’s Keeper, which is available on PS5 today following the studio’s independence from the Microsoft property.Gundam Rogue OrbitGundam Rogue Orbit got a new trailer and confirmation of a release date: March 5, 2027.Final Fantasy ResonanceSquare Enix announced a demo for Final Fantasy Resonance, out today. The game launches in October. LEGO PlayStation confirmed The LEGO PlayStation that leaked earlier this week was confirmed in State of Play with an official look at the PS1. The almost 1:1 scale reproduction of the original 1994 console has 1,911 pieces and will be released later this year. Crimson Desert DLC announced. Pearl Abyss showed off the Crimson Desert DLC, called Chartering the Unknown. The trailer showed off a lot of new content and systems, including what looks like a base building mechanic. Why not? Crimson Desert has practically every other video game system! There’s also what looks like underwater exploration: Chartering the Unknown comes out on October 15, 2026. Maneater 2 Announced State of Play delivered the surprise Maneater 2 announcement! It will be out in 2027.Metro 2039 PS5 Pro gameplay and release date4A Games revealed a first look at the upcoming shooter Metro 2039 running on PS5 Pro. The game looked fantastic in the images shown during State of Play, with impressive level of detail and atmospheric lighting throughout the spooky game. Finally the shooting begins and we see the protagonist fight several human enemies in a building. Outside, a storm is brewing and the player seeks shelter before it breaks. We also revealed the release date: Metro 2039 is due out on February 4, 2027. The Monster Hunter Wilds expansion, AscendanceState of Play, invited Monster Hunter fans to check out the Wilds expansion, Ascendance, coming out in 2027. Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted Sucker Punch showcased Ghost of Yotei Most Wanted, the upcoming single-player combat and survival roguelike mode included in Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, which will be released in October. October 1, 2026 for PlayStation 5. The footage showcased the return of the upcoming single-player combat-survival roguelike mode included in Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition, releasing on October 1, 2026 for PlayStation 5. The footage ended with a look at Jin Sakai, the main playable character of Ghost of Tsushima. He can be played in Ghost of Yotei through Most Wanted. Marvel’s WolverineSony released one last look at Marvel’s Wolverine, which is coming out this month exclusively on PS5. The trailer shows Wolverine fighting Trask’s Sentinels, as well as cooperative gameplay with Sabretooth. The trailer ends with the heroes fighting a massive Sentinel while searching for Trask himself. Zach Cregger’s Resident EvilState of Play began with a new look at Zach Cregger’s Resident Evil movie. The clip shown is the much talked about scene in which zombies fall from rooftops to the street while star Austin Abrams runs for his life. This is the scene where Cregger said Abrams almost died from a falling zombie! Cregger also appeared with a message for fans. Given what’s happening with pull shooter Marathon and developer Bungie’s abandonment of Destiny 2, it’s probably no surprise to see Destiny fans rallying around this State of Play stream. The thing is, it seems extremely unlikely that Sony will greenlight Destiny 3, which would surely be another expensive and risky development project at this point.
