On Tuesday, the Titans abruptly released defensive tackle Jordan Elliott without elaborating on the “incident” that led to the move. Multiple reports indicate that it was a serious situation that could have gotten much worse. Austin Stanley and Easton Freeze of AtoZSports.com and Aaron Wilson of KPRC in Houston report that Elliott went to his car to get his gun after an altercation on October 15. Via AtoZSports.com, the Nashville Metro Nashville Police Department said Tuesday afternoon that no reports had been filed regarding the incident. Wilson’s report adds more details. Per Wilson, Elliott and tackle JC Latham argued after a play. Elliott was then told to leave the practice field. Elliott reportedly went to the players’ parking lot to get his gun from his car. Titans defensive tackle John Franklin-Myers calmed the situation. It is unclear whether he actually took the gun and brought it back to the practice field. Presumably so it was; If Franklin-Myers had simply stopped Elliott from going to his car, that probably wouldn’t have been enough for the Titans to cut Elliott. Through Wilson, everything was captured by surveillance cameras. Elliott, 28, had signed a two-year, $8 million contract in the offseason. The Browns’ third-round pick in 2020 spent four years in Cleveland and two in San Francisco. He played last year for Titans coach Robert Saleh during Saleh’s second one-year stint as San Francisco’s defensive coordinator. After appearing in the first five games of the 2026 season, Elliott was inactive for Sunday’s win over the Colts. The Titans ultimately decided to cut Elliott five days later, and the entire situation was kept under wraps until the Titans released Elliott without explanation. It is unclear if the league was informed of the incident. It would have been prudent, if not required, for the Titans to quickly contact the league office, both to inform them and to seek advice on how to proceed.
