Old school PlayStation gamers should have fond memories of Guerrilla Games’ Killzone series. What was once Sony PlayStation’s flagship first-person shooter franchise, which was even dubbed “Halo Killer” in the now-infamous E3 trailer, has since been shelved in favor of the Horizon franchise. Well, it looks like Sony has plans to revive the series, as MP1st has learned that a new Killzone project is in the early stages of production. While we don’t expect an official announcement anytime soon, from what we’ve heard, Killzone is back on Guerrilla’s plate. Killzone returns with the help of an outside studio According to people familiar with the situation, Guerrilla Games is working with an outside studio (read: not PlayStation’s own) on a Killzone remaster/remake. So far, it has not been specified which game in the franchise will be updated, but common sense points to the first entry from 2004 as the most sensible option. We’re told this Killzone project was supposed to be Guerrilla’s next focus after Horizon Hunter’s Gathering, with some of the team assigned to it, but after the recent report that the title was rebooted due to negative feedback, fixing that game is now the studio’s priority. This would let some of Guerrilla return to Killzone once work on Hunter’s Gathering is completed. We understand that Horizon 3 will arrive after the upcoming Killzone project, but given how early this project is, let’s not rule out plans changing. Other rumors suggest that the project could go in a different direction, as the idea of a complete reboot has also been floated. However, the most consistent information we’ve gathered states that this will be a visual upgrade from a previous title. But which outside studio is partnering with Guerrilla? If you’ve been following Sony’s recent collaborations closely, you may already know the answer. In March 2025, PlayStation and developer People Can Fly signed a deal to co-develop a title codenamed Delta, a project that will be based on an existing PlayStation IP. What we’ve heard clearly indicates that PCF will be in charge of this new Killzone, although we couldn’t get a definitive confirmation. If true, the title would be added to the studio’s already extensive list of productions, such as Project Florence, a partnership with 2K based on one of its IPs, and other projects linked to Krafton and Microsoft licenses. Keep in mind that things change, but from what we’ve heard from multiple sources, it confirms one thing: a new Killzone project is in the works. The last Killzone game released was Killzone: Shadow Fall for PS4 in 2013. It received generally positive reviews and even had a thriving multiplayer community, with the servers not shutting down until August 2022.
