NVIDIA has officially confirmed that the company is working to bring DLSS 5 neural rendering to the previous generation GeForce RTX 40 series “Ada Lovelace.” Previously, it was believed that DLSS 5 technology would be exclusive to the latest GeForce RTX Series 50 “Blackwell” and future models, with no looking back. As NVIDIA continues to focus on hardware and software co-optimization, we now have official confirmation that the GeForce RTX 40 series will also receive a DLSS 5 port. However, the launch of DLSS 5 on the GeForce RTX 40 series is secondary, as NVIDIA is still preparing and optimizing the performance of the GeForce RTX 50 series to ensure that the model does not significantly affect final game performance, despite which is reportedly computationally intensive. NVIDIADLSS 5 is our most computationally demanding model to date. Since we initially announced it in March, we’ve achieved a 5x performance gain and there’s more to come. Our current focus is on optimizing the performance of the GeForce RTX 50 series, with model updates expected later this fall. Once the performance of the RTX 50 Series is better tuned, we plan to work on expanding official support to the GeForce RTX 40 Series. Officially, DLSS 5 launches with the latest NBA 2K27 from 2K Games, which launches today. It is compatible with all GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs, RTX 50 laptops, and GeForce NOW, allowing gamers to enjoy the benefits of neural rendering. For now, DLSS 5 is optimized for “Blackwell” 5th generation Tensor cores, while support for 4th generation Tensor cores in “Ada Lovelace” is still being optimized. Readers will recall that NVIDIA initially used two GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs for DLSS 5 demos, and then settled on a single GPU with optimizations. For the latest generation GPUs to achieve good performance we will have to wait a little longer.
