Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 will be released on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on August 27, 2026, finally giving players on Nintendo platforms the opportunity to experience Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. However, even before its release, fans have noticed what appear to be some changes beyond the visual overhaul. As GameRadar first reported, players noted that references to PlayStation 3, where the game was exclusive until recently, could be changed. In Metal Gear Solid 4, there is a reference to Metal Gear Solid that includes a famous scene in which Otacon comments on the original game’s disc-swapping mechanic, saying, “Oh, wait! We’re on PlayStation 3! It’s a Blu-ray disc. Plus, it’s double-layered, no need to swap.” As discovered by users on Reddit, the pages for the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 2 manual include a screenshot of Metal Gear Solid 4’s pause menu, showing a live camera feed of Sunny aboard the Nomad. In the original version, a PlayStation 3 can be seen sitting on the table during some scenes, and the console remains present in the PlayStation, PC, and Xbox versions. However, the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 versions appear to have removed the PS3, replacing it with what look like GA-KO figures. While this doesn’t confirm whether Konami has altered the iconic Otacon line, it does show that the company is willing to make changes to the versions included in the Master Collection. Naturally, this has led to speculation among fans about what the line could be in the Nintendo versions.
