SEATTLE — An investigation is underway after a stabbing victim boarded the Link light rail Sunday afternoon in Seattle’s Pioneer Square neighborhood. According to the King County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), Sound Transit deputies initially responded to reports of a man bleeding from his torso at the Symphony station on Third Ave. around 4:30 p.m. Firefighters then arrived and treated the man in his 30s, before paramedics transported him to Harborview Medical Center, where he remains. critical condition as of Sunday night. Seattle police, who now have jurisdiction over the investigation, stated that the victim was allegedly stabbed in Occidental Square within the Pioneer Square neighborhood, before walking to the nearby light rail stop and waiting for a train. Sound Transit shared a security camera image of the man sitting on a bench, visibly bleeding through his shirt at the Pioneer Square station, before boarding a northbound train to the Symphony station. At the Symphony station, service on the 1 and 2 lines was stopped for approximately 20 minutes while the victim was treated and transported, and KCSO cleared the scene. As of the latest SPD update, the suspect remains at large without providing a description. Police also did not say there was a threat to the public. The reported stabbing took place just blocks from the nearest active city CCTV camera at 3rd Avenue and Yesler Way, while other city CCTV cameras installed throughout Pioneer Square remain turned off since the end of the FIFA World Cup in early July, while an ongoing audit determines the security of their data from federal authorities and their effectiveness.
