Man charged with murder in fight-turned-shooting inside fast food restaurant :: WRAL.com

One man is dead and another has been charged with murder after a shooting Wednesday afternoon inside the Fuquay-Varina fast food restaurant. According to the Fuquay-Varina Police Department, officers were called to reports of shots fired around 5:41 p.m. at a Zaxby’s on North Main Street in Fuquay-Varina. When they arrived they found two men with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to the hospital for their injuries, where one of them died. Otis Lee Johnson, 18, was charged with murder after the shooting and is due in court Thursday afternoon. Police officers said the shooting initially began as a confrontation between two men, which continued to escalate. Otis Johnson, the suspect’s father, told WRAL News that his son was the employee involved. “[The other male] stopped, jumped over the counter and attacked my son,” Johnson Sr. said. “My son responded in self-defense because he was at work. You should not be attacked while you are at work.” Police said they will not identify the victim until next of kin of the person who died have been notified. A spokesperson for the Fuquay-Varina Police Department told WRAL News their investigation is ongoing and they would have more information available Thursday.
