Mamdani says she told Trump she didn’t agree with ban on CNN, MSNOW and POLITICO Mamdani says she told Trump she didn’t agree with ban on CNN, MSNOW and POLITICO 0:28 During his meeting with President Donald Trump today, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani made it clear that he didn’t agree with the president’s ban on certain media outlets and warned him that there would be no restrictions during the events of the Monday. “What I said is that I believe in a free press and I believe in the importance of taking questions from everyone, regardless of whether they are based on praise or criticism,” Mamdani told CNN’s Christiane Amanpour during an interview on Monday. “You saw that we talked to representatives from CNN, from MS NOW, from Politico, from Crain’s, from The City Reporter, from a wide variety, and that is something that will continue under my administration, because I think it is a fundamental part of the fourth estate being able to do its job.” The mayor reflected on his own relationship with the press and said he remains open to all media outlets, even those that frequently criticize him. “You know, you can buy a copy of the New York Post almost every day of the week and you’ll find me on the cover, and I’ll still answer questions from the New York Post because I think that also means being in New York City politics — interacting with New Yorkers,” Mamdani said. While he remains accessible, Mamdani, who holds press conferences almost daily, has also imposed some of his own limits on access. Events are often grouped or open to invited media.
