iOS 27.2 beta 2 arrived today and so far it seems to have minimal changes for the user. But code for iOS 27.2 betas points to new features in the works for Apple Music, CarPlay Ultra, and more. Leakers Discover iOS 27.2 Features Hidden in Beta Code Whenever Apple releases new beta software, we tend to discover changes in two ways: through active user-facing features in the software, as well as underlying code changes that point to future changes. With iOS 27.2, there were a variety of new features available to try from day one, such as the new Health app, user profiles on Apple TV, Siri AI expansions, and more. But savvy users examining the underlying code found even more changes in the works. For example, X user pdfu discovered that Apple Music will soon add live countdowns for new album releases. Another pdfu discovery in the iOS 27.2 beta code has to do with the Shortcuts app. It looks like Shortcuts’ new ‘Describe a Shortcut’ feature will soon gain support for including actions from third-party apps. Describing a shortcut could soon support actions from third-party developers. Currently, the feature only supports actions developed by Apple. With a new feature indicator in iOS 27.2 and macOS 27.2, the model can now choose actions from third-party apps. Aaron Perris discovered that the code references a ‘Drive Mode Theme’ that changes things like the style and color of the gauge, and even synchronizes the vehicle’s ambient lighting. iOS 27.2 beta 1 includes text describing a “Driving Mode Theme” intended for CarPlay Ultra. “This will reset all customizations made to this theme, including the style, color, and indicator wallpaper, to default values.” The theming features mean Apple is about to expand support to another automaker. We previously reported that iOS 27.2 will add a feature to more completely erase data from your iPhone. Today’s beta 2 has more descriptive language about this addition, now called “Extended Wipe,” as discovered by Aaron Perris. Finally, Perris found evidence that Apple may be preparing a demo mode for users of its upcoming ‘HomePad’ smart home device. In?
