iOS 27.2 arrived this week with new features for Messages, Apple TV, and more, plus two improvements for CarPlay. These are the news for CarPlay users. #1: Apple Podcasts Adds Sections for New Episodes and Continue Playing Apple Podcasts in iOS 27.2 adds two new sections to the Home tab: “New Episodes” and “Continue Playing.” Basically, Apple has rethought how its Podcasts app’s main “Up Next” queue works. As expected, ‘New Episodes’ contains only the latest episodes of your favorite shows. But once you’ve started an episode, you’ll find it in the “Continue Playing” row just below. This podcast management overhaul makes it easier to find the latest episodes of your shows and also pick up where you left off. I’m a big fan of change. #2: Siri AI Updates Siri AI introduces a variety of updates in iOS 27.2, including two that are also moving to CarPlay. According to Apple’s release notes: Siri AI can remember your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it’s told you before, like which restaurants it recommended last week. Siri AI can draw on more sources to give you great feedback, including photos attached in Messages, attendees at Calendar events, your voice messages, and better results from Safari history and Reading List. It may take some adjustment to remember that Siri AI is available in the car just like it is on the iPhone. But CarPlay is an especially useful platform for Apple’s most powerful assistant. Bonus: New Apple Music app icon and design tweaks Whether this qualifies as an “improvement” is debatable, but it’s a change worth mentioning. iOS 27.2 includes a new app icon for Apple Music, plus some minor design tweaks to the app. These changes are related to the complete rebranding of Apple Music introduced last week.
