In recent days, a strange-looking bathroom sign in Marvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac’s latest big PS5 superhero game, has gone viral online as some fans and creators wondered if it was generated by AI. And although the sign seems a little sloppy, Insomniac has explained that it is just a mistake and that they will fix it soon. Since launching earlier this week exclusively for PlayStation 5, Insomniac’s Wolverine has received a lukewarm reception from fans and critics. And for some online, especially content creators, the game has become a gold mine where they can dig and dip. Everything from the game’s story to its cutscenes and use of impossible-to-fail quick-time events has been put under a microscope and shared online for millions of views. (None of that has stopped it from quickly becoming one of PlayStation’s best-selling PS5 games.) And the latest example of this is a bathroom sign that looks confusing and sloppy. A TikTok went viral earlier this week, racking up more than 700,000 views while showing the strange-looking sign, which appears to show multiple intertwined male figures. The RockSolid Twitter account shared screenshots of the strange bathroom sign and posted: “I don’t want to accuse anyone, but did Insomniac really use AI in their $300 million Wolverine game???” That tweet has more than 315,000 views. Probably sensing that this was possibly going to become a much bigger issue, Insomniac’s director of marketing and community, James Stevenson, bluntly squashed the rumors and accusations on Twitter. “No,” Stevenson posted in response to RockSolid’s viral tweet. “This is a bug in the UV map and we have a fix coming. There are no AI generated assets in Marvel’s Wolverine.” And yes, that explanation makes a lot of sense to me. If you look at the sign in different screenshots and from different angles, its appearance changes, almost as if the textures collide. It doesn’t look like the usual AI crash we normally see. Also, why would Insomniac use AI tools to generate something so simple? In fact, they probably already had this bathroom sign somewhere in their assets folder after recreating New York City in several Spider-Man games. Also, nothing else in this game seems AI generated. With Wolverine so under the microscope right now, it was only a matter of time before a small texture error was accused of being an AI-generated asset. And in 2026, any kind of strange-looking artwork or text can quickly lead to accusations of AI failure. As someone who passionately hates AI-generated art and text, I also try to warn people not to throw accusations so casually. It can really cause problems for artists and just makes it easier for real AI to slip through the cracks. Fortunately, AI is not the problem here and Insomniac will fix this little visual bug soon.
