LIMERICK TWP., Pa. (WPVI) — A historic fighter jet crashed Wednesday night while attempting to land at an airport in Montgomery County. It happened around 7:15 pm at Heritage Field Airport in the 3300 block of West Ridge Pike in Limerick Township. Video from Chopper 6 showed the single-engine plane flipped upside down in a grassy area of the airport. Helicopter 6 on a small plane crashed in Limerick Twp. on September 9, 2026. After the crash, there was a fuel leak from one of the plane’s wings, so firefighters remained on scene while crews worked to right the plane. Officials say the pilot was the only person on board, but it is unclear where he came from. According to Limerick Fire Chief Ken Shuler, the pilot was being pulled from the wreckage when emergency crews arrived. The pilot was taken to a nearby hospital. Authorities have not released information about the extent of the person’s injuries. “He seemed to be talking and everything when he left the scene here,” Shuler said. A local photographer shared a video of the plane in the air, moments before the crash. FAA records show the plane that crashed is a “Harvard 3” variant of the historic World War II-era T-6. They were used by Allied forces to train fighter pilots before stepping into fighter aircraft. Federal records show this one was manufactured in 1944. It currently sports a British Royal Navy paint scheme, but is now privately owned and registered to a company in Bucks County. The plane was removed from the scene Wednesday night.
