On Wednesday, the ALDS heads to Chicago, where the White Sox will host the Cleveland Guardians for Game 3. With a 2-0 series lead, the White Sox have a chance to secure a trip to the American League Championship Series for the first time since 2005, the season in which the franchise won its last World Series (and first since 1917) with a 4-0 sweep of the Houston Astros. The Guardians will open Game 3 with right-hander Daniel Espino (0-0, 4.11 ERA) as they try to climb out of an 0-2 hole. It will be Espino’s second appearance and his first start of the postseason after he allowed a hit and a walk in two-thirds of an inning in Game 1. He is expected to pitch just one or two innings before making way for the bullpen. The White Sox will run another bullpen game, with left-hander Sean Newcomb (2-5, 3.09 ERA) starting. Newcomb followed starter Anthony Kay in Game 2 and struck out three in two innings, although his throwing error allowed both of Kay’s runners to score in the first to give the Guardians an early 2-0 lead.
