Gran Turismo 7 Update Confirmed for August 20: Three Performance Sedans, Caterham Returns – GTPlanet

After an unexpectedly longer wait for more information, we now have confirmation that the next content update for Gran Turismo 7 will arrive on Thursday, August 20, along with details on some of its content. Series creator Kazunori Yamauchi posted his usual teaser about ten days ago to inform players that the update would arrive “next week.” Unlike all previous occasions where this trailer was released on a Sunday, the update did not arrive for the next four days. Maybe that wasn’t a huge surprise, given that PD had an upcoming streamed event for the GTWS Round 2 races ready for an update trailer, but it didn’t happen at the time either. Today’s follow-up Tweet is the first additional information since then. With the covers removed, we can see that our previous guesses about what the four vehicles might be were correct. The appearance of a new manufacturer is always more important due to rarity, and in this update Caterham returns from Gran Turismo 6. Previously, the brand, which specializes in variations of the classic Lotus Seven in both factory and kit form, had only been represented by the Seven Fireblade, so the appearance of the Seven Superlight R500 also marks a completely new car. Instead of a relatively torque-depleted bike engine, the Superlight R500 features a Ford Duratec four-cylinder engine that delivers twice the torque and another 100 hp than its predecessor. The Fireblade wasn’t slow, but the Superlight hits 60 mph in less than three seconds. Not far behind that in the 60 mph sprint is the much heavier Hyundai Ioniq 6N, Hyundai’s latest N model from the previously announced Hyundai partnership. Using the same architecture as the 5N we already have, the 601-hp (641-hp with boost) 6N uses a sedan body instead of the 5N’s crossover styling. Finally, there’s a pair of Japanese twins, or rather two of a set of triplets, across two performance sedans from the 1990s that mark a welcome return for two brands. The Toyota Mark II only previously appeared as a fourth-generation X90 car in the first two games in the series, but this update brings the X100 model along with the returning X100 Chaser. Along with the Cresta (which is not in this update), these three cars represented different interpretations of the chassis for different types of customers. They were even sold through different dealerships, the Mark II was sold through Toyopet and the Chaser through Netz/Vista stores. With both cars in Tourer V specification for this update, they have the same 1JZ-GTE engine, with the mono-turbo unit good for the Gentlemen’s Agreement’s maximum power of 276 hp. Although Polyphony Digital teased some upcoming content in the GTWS Round 2 stream, it’s unlikely we’ll see it in this update. The Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Concept Evo was a surprise announcement, and although it’s scheduled to appear in 2026, we’re not expecting it this time, or anywhere else in late December. However, we hope there is something more to come in this particular update, as the unusual change to the format of this week’s online time trial clearly suggests. In short, the new event lasts one week instead of the usual two, and the last time it happened was before an update that brought a major physical change. As today is the day before the update, there should be more information in the coming hours confirming more about the content, so as always, watch this space for the latest news!
