Gemini limiting what models free & AI Plus users can access, more

Following the switch to compute-based usage in May, Google will soon introduce limits on what free users of Gemini models and AI Plus subscribers can access. According to a support document updated this week, Gemini app users without a Google AI subscription will be limited to the Flash-Lite (3.5) model. Starting October 9, users who do not pay for Gemini will no longer be able to access (3.6) Flash or (3.1) Pro. Meanwhile, AI Plus subscribers will be limited to Flash-Lite and Flash, and Pro will no longer be available. These $4.99 per month users “will receive an email explaining when these changes will take effect.” Gemini ModelGoogle AI PlanFlash-LiteFlashProNo plan ✓XXAI Plus ✓ ✓ XAI Pro ✓ ✓ ✓ AI Ultra ✓ ✓ ✓ There are no regressions for AI Pro and AI Ultra. Rather, $19.99/month customers will have access to the Deep Think option for “maximum parallel reasoning” which is currently only on the $99.99 and $199.99/month plans. For now, you can simply enable “Extended Thinking: Complex Problem Solving.” The three new levels of effort/thinking would match what is available in Google AI Studio and Antigravity. It’s unclear where the Gemini 4 Argon will fit. Google announced earlier this week that it will be coming to AI Ultra subscribers for the first time. The company has yet to specify whether the Argon will be classified as a Pro model or be part of a new higher level. More about Gemini App: FTC: We use automatic affiliate links to generate income.
