Days After GTA 6’s Big Reveal, Rockstar Announces A Major GTA 5 Update

Posted September 1, 2026 at 4:34 pm EDT Grand Theft Auto 5 will feature a revamped world with better NPCs Image: Rockstar Games Grand Theft Auto 6 may be just around the corner, but don’t rule out Grand Theft Auto 5 just yet. Rockstar announced on Tuesday that GTA 5 will soon receive an RPG-focused update called nopixel V. It will transform the base game into a multiplayer experience where fans will be able to tell their own stories. It’s always been possible to have your own ideas, but nopixel adds custom roleplaying options to the mix. Rockstar promises a redesigned character customization system that will help players tell unique stories. The world has also been updated: better visuals and smarter, more reactive NPCs. nopixel will offer more ways to earn money, whether you want to play as a hardened criminal or a law-abiding citizen. The update introduces new areas, such as a large hotel-casino and a renovated version of Cypress Flats. That’s the news, but Rockstar says there’s much more to come. According to a Rockstar blog post, GTA 5 will eventually receive other improvements, such as a new PC game overlay, more events, and “expanded access” to nopixel. The post reads: “Every player helps shape the city and every relationship matters.” The nopixel closed beta starts on September 8 and will be available directly from the Rockstar Games Launcher. “GTA Roleplay has never felt more alive and there has never been a better time to tune in,” says Rockstar. There’s no official word yet on how GTA 6 will incorporate the RPG elements of GTA Online, or even when the game will arrive on PC. Until the open-world sequel comes out, nopixel might be the closest thing fans can get to experiencing GTA 6’s deep NPC system.
