A beloved father who worked in a sausage factory in Brazil has reportedly died after being sucked into an ice crushing machine in a horrific and freak accident. Diego Fernando Gonzaga, 39, was working the morning shift at the HG Foods meat production center in Santa Luzia on Monday when he fell into the machine and became trapped, according to local media g1.globo.com. Rescuers frantically tried to get him out, but his legs got stuck and he went into cardiac arrest while inside, according to the UK Sun. Diego Fernando Gonzaga, 39, died in an ice machine while working at a meat factory, according to reports. Breaking news “My heart is broken,” said his devastated mother, María de Fátima, according to the newspaper. “You get the news that your son is leaving home alive and well to go to work, and then you find out that he’s gone. It’s very sad.” Gonzaga, a longtime food industry worker and father of a 19-year-old daughter, was still conscious and reportedly talking to colleagues while waiting for firefighters to rescue him, the newspaper reported. Rescuers reportedly attempted to free it using hydraulic equipment and cutting tools to dismantle parts of the machine, but to no avail. Gonzaga was covering the 5:30 a.m. shift for a co-worker when he was killed, according to local outlet bhaz.com.br. De Fatima said she had already been grieving the heartbreaking deaths of other family members in recent months, including her mother, an aunt, an uncle and a cousin. Diego Fernando Gonzaga was the father of a 19-year-old daughter and a long-time worker in the food industry. News flash “It is the children who should bury their parents, not the parents who bury their children,” said de Fátima. “We’ll miss him so much. We’ll never get over him completely. It’s a huge loss.” Gonzaga’s cousin, Mariana Alberto, said he was known for his cheerful personality. Rescuers tried to save Diego Fernando Gonzaga in the meat factory. Breaking news “He was very happy and was always singing and dancing. He wanted to live… live life to the fullest and be happy,” Alberto told g1.globo.com. The logistics of the accident were not immediately clear Wednesday. Representatives of the meat factory did not respond to a request for comment from bhaz.com.br.
