CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn (WABC) — Three people were injured in separate shootings in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, Monday afternoon near the New York Carnival Parade festivities. Police say a man was shot in front of 800 Nostrand Ave. in St. John’s Place, just north of Eastern Parkway. A suspect was detained and a firearm was recovered. A woman was then shot at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. They then found a 19-year-old man shot in the legs. Two suspects fled toward Albany Avenue. One wore a gray hoodie and blue jeans; the other was wearing a white shirt. Both victims are expected to survive. The shootings occurred despite extensive security measures taken by the NYPD in an effort to prevent the type of violence that has plagued the New York Carnival Parade in the past. Earlier in the day, five people were stabbed just hours before the start of the parade. All five victims were expected to survive. One person is in custody. A 37-year-old woman was shot in the leg at Eastern Parkway and Kingston Avenue. They then found a 19-year-old man shot in the legs. That suspect is still being sought.
