Flight disruptions persisted in the Northeast on Sunday as the storm continues to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the northeastern US. About 200 flights in and out of Boston were canceled on Sunday, about 15% of the day’s schedule, while another 260 were canceled on Saturday, according to FlightAware. Dozens of others faced delays at major airports in the New England and New York area. Airlines often cancel some, if not most, of their schedules during severe winter storms or hurricanes to ensure that planes, passengers and crews are not out of whack, but airlines kept most schedules intact ahead of the nor’easter, with delays much smaller than other major storms. American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways said customers can change flights to a variety of airports in the New York City area, Boston and smaller New England airports without paying a change fee or fare difference if they can fly any time before the middle of next week. The weekend outages followed an equipment outage on Monday that forced airlines to cancel hundreds of flights bound for the New York and Philadelphia area.
