According to Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, Project Helix, which she announced in March as a code name for Microsoft’s “next-gen console” (a phrase that apparently implied a singular device) will actually be a “family” of devices. “We’ve been working hard on a great next-gen and big family of devices for Helix, and we’ll be sharing more soon,” Sharma told BBC News. She shared the answer after being asked if the Helix will be a discless console. She didn’t answer that, but this week Microsoft announced a program to digitize its physical games. In 2025, Microsoft and AMD announced a “multi-year strategic partnership” to work together on “a portfolio of devices,” including Microsoft’s next-gen console, so it seems likely that the two companies are also partnering on this Helix family of devices in some way. It has been rumored that third parties will be able to sell their own Project Helix devices, a rumor that Xbox next-gen VP Jason Ronald didn’t exactly deny when he wrote that: “Helix will be available as its own Xbox console.”
