Tony Khan has been frequently asked about the future of the AEW Fight Forever video game and if he will make another one. According to a new report released Thursday, there appears to be a financial reason why that hasn’t happened yet. Insider Gaming executive editor Mike Straw posted a short video on Thursday (seen below) where he revealed through his sources that AEW had to take a “massive loss” of at least $30 million for the development of the game. Part of the reason was due to long game delays and missed deadlines. Straw noted that the game was originally supposed to release in 2022, but came out in the summer of 2023, around the time of Forbidden Door. “When games take this long, they take longer to make,” he said, also noting that sales figures were half of what his initial expectations were. Straw did not have an update on whether there would be further developments with Fight Forever as there is no agreement between AEW and developer Yuke. However, AEW owns the game engine and could find another developer. He said they are interested in revisiting video games “in the future,” but when he asked about rumors that they had spoken to a third party about the license, he was told they “didn’t know anything about it.” Josh Nason Since 2011, Josh has been a contributing editor for Wrestling Observer/F4WOnline.com and also hosts the Punch-Out podcast.
