Harvard Management Company disclosed the position in a regulatory filing on Friday, making SpaceX the largest single disclosed shareholding in its $4.3 billion U.S. stock portfolio. The investment highlights how SpaceX’s record-breaking initial public offering in June generated significant returns for university endowments that gained exposure to the company through venture capital investments, in some cases more than a decade ago.
