According to Warner Bros., a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is actively in development. The studio confirmed in a recent earnings report that a “second installment” of Hogwarts Legacy is in the works. No details were provided on what the game will look like or when it might release, but it appears to be a serious focus for the company in the future. In the earnings report, WB expected titles like Hogwarts Legacy 2 to “significantly contribute” to its future revenue. “We expect gaming to contribute more significantly to the segment’s profitability in the future as our portfolio expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy,” the report says. However, this shouldn’t come as too big of a surprise. Warner Bros. had previously stated that a successor to Hogwarts Legacy was a high priority following the success of the first game. Hogwarts Legacy is among the best-selling games of all time, with 40 million copies sold. In 2023, it was the first non-Call of Duty or Rockstar Games title since 2009 to be the best-selling title of the year. Harry Potter is also getting a big boost at Warner Bros. as it prepares to relaunch the franchise with a TV adaptation on HBO this Christmas. The show is already moving into its second season, casting major stars like Nicholas Hoult. The series will almost certainly spark new interest in the brand and do wonders for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel. Given that the first game was released in 2023, it wouldn’t be surprising if we see a sequel in late 2028, if not sooner. While there is certainly room to expand the map, much of the heavy lifting has already been done by designing Hogwarts and its surrounding areas. It is likely that the team can reuse these resources in order to complete the game faster. However, they may also be given more time and resources to push the boundaries with the sequel, thanks to the absurd success of the first game. Maybe, if we’re lucky, it’ll be a launch title for PS6, speculated to launch in Fall 2027. Only time will tell, but there are certainly more magical adventures on the way.
