Poised for breakout moment in Latin America, Pope Leo also faces test of health

MONTEVIDEO, Uruguay – Pope Leo XIV landed in Uruguay’s capital on Friday, the first stop of a 12-day trip through Latin America that also includes stops in Argentina and Peru. It is expected to be his defining moment (with predictions of the largest and most effusive crowds of his papacy) and a historic return for the Chicago-born pontiff, who is a citizen of both the United States and Peru, a country he adopted as his second home after working there for two decades.
