Costco Employee Finds Carrier Left In Shopping Cart — Then Reads The Writing On The Side

Wilson was finishing her night shift at Costco Wholesale last week when a misplaced shopping cart suddenly caught her attention. The only item in the cart was a blue mesh pet carrier, and as Wilson approached it, he realized someone had been left inside. Instagram/corderonomar As a full-time cat parent, Wilson recognized the carrier right away. But he was confused as to why there was an adult cat inside without a single buyer claiming it. “My first reaction, honestly, was confusion,” Wilson told The Dodo. “I’m thinking, ‘Why is there a cat here? Why is my home life focused on my work? Why am I excited? Wait, what happened?’ all at the same time.” Instagram/corderonomarWilson ran to the cart to get a better look at the cat. That’s when he noticed writing on one of the side panels that made the situation even more heartbreaking. “I checked the bag and noticed there was ‘Misty 14.’ [years]’ written in Sharpie on the back,” Wilson said. Instagram/corderonomarMisty, a black and orange calico, looked confused when Wilson looked inside the carrier. Apparently, someone had placed her in the shopping cart, then carried it to the store’s garage before walking away. And as the other employees on duty paced the store looking for answers, Wilson could only think about Misty’s needs at that moment. “I have three black cats at home,” Wilson said. “They were all “You can see that moment.” here: Wilson quickly grabbed two pieces of foam cardboard to line the cart, then set up a makeshift bathroom with litter she had bought for her cats at home and a black garbage bag. She then opened a can of wet food and unzipped the carrier so Misty, who had been abandoned in a small blue sweater and a harness, was at first too scared to get out of her carrier, but Wilson refused to leave her there, scared and alone, and stayed by her side while her companions. “Some of our coworkers may offer to adopt Misty, and a few of us plan to stop by the shelter to see her. anyway,” Wilson wrote in an Instagram comment. Instagram/corderonomar As of now, Misty is still resting and recovering from the whole ordeal at NYCACC. It was a worrying event for everyone involved, but thankfully the sweet one. The little girl is doing well and should be ready for adoption in a few days. And while Wilson never expected to come across an abandoned cat carrier at work, she’s glad she was there to take care of Misty that night and show her she wasn’t alone. “Seeing Misty reminded me to my home and my cats, Zorra, Reynard and Power, and I just wanted to help,” Wilson said.
