London – British actor, comedian and media personality Russell Brand was found guilty of rape and sexual assault in a London court on Thursday. Brand, 51, was found guilty of raping a young fan in 2009 after they met at one of his shows in west London. He was also found guilty of three counts of sexual assault. After the verdicts were handed down, Judge Joel Bennathan said the case was “very well prepared”, according to Britain’s Press Association, adding that the sentence would be handed down on Monday. Brand, who stood tall in the dock as the verdicts were revealed and closed his eyes when he discovered he had been found guilty of rape, has been remanded in custody. “The consequence of this is inevitably a significant prison sentence,” Bennathan said.
