Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk has taken an important step toward returning to the field. Aiyuk’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that his client requested his reinstatement from the 49ers’ reserve/left squad list. Rosenhaus also said Aiyuk plans to report to the 49ers facility this week. “Brandon is healthy and ready to get back on the field,” Rosenhaus said. Aiyuk made the list due to a lengthy standoff with the 49ers over how he decided to rehab his 2024 knee injury and that included the 49ers’ decision to void the remaining guarantees in his contract. The 49ers said Aiyuk will never play for the team again, leaving them with the option of trading him or releasing him once his reinstatement is processed and he reports to the team. Previous attempts to trade him were unsuccessful, so a release may be the most likely outcome.
