Do you have a computer, phone or tablet with some memory chips inside? It’s a shame. You shouldn’t be doing that. Well, at least not according to OpenAI’s Sam Altman, who shared his thoughts on rampant memory shortages in an interview on the Cheeky Pint and Stripe YouTube channel. The entire interview is an interesting listen if you’re into AI, but the fun part starts at about the 29:20 mark of the video. “From a global allocation perspective, it’s actually pretty terrible that everyone has a bunch of the world’s limited DRAM supply in their own computer,” Altman said without batting an eyelid. Mashable Light Speed True, Altman was making a broader point, and he spoke after a few pints of beer, but the comment is still pretty cheeky at a time when everyone who buys any kind of electronic device that uses RAM is facing higher prices, precisely because big business’s hunger for AI computing is sucking up all the RAM chips in the world. The Internet, of course, had something to say about Altman’s seemingly endless lust for DRAM chips. The sentiment is clear: stay away from our domestic machines, Altman. We have paid a high price for a scant 16 GB of RAM. Some of the best memes we’ve seen are below. This Tweet is currently unavailable. It may be loading or may have been deleted.
