Pregnant woman killed in Fairfield shooting at Spirit Halloween

Six more victims of the shooting ranged in age from 16 to 43 years old. A 31-year-old woman was identified as the person killed in Friday’s mass shooting at a Spirit Halloween store in Solano Town Center in Fairfield. The woman, Constance Hages, was pregnant at the time of her death, the family told police. On Saturday, Fairfield police also shared more details about the six others injured in the shooting, who ranged in age from 16 to 43. They included a 16-year-old boy, a 19-year-old man, a 32-year-old man and a 23-year-old man who remained hospitalized in critical but stable condition. Two other victims, a 19-year-old man and a 43-year-old man, were released from the hospital after being treated for gunshot wounds. No one has been arrested in connection with the shooting, to which police responded at 8:30 p.m. As of Saturday morning, police said they believe the shooting stemmed from a targeted incident involving a suspect inside Spirit Halloween. Detectives are still reviewing video footage and other evidence to identify the person responsible, the department said. A witness told KCRA 3’s Denzen Cortez that his wife, who was inside the Spirit Halloween store, heard gunshots and people running. “I think she told him [me] “There were like five, six, seven shots when people were running,” the witness said. Another witness, Miena Davis, said she heard a series of pops shortly after entering the store. A second round followed and buyers began running. “Everything froze and said, ‘What was that?'” Davis said. “And then another round of the same sound was heard and then a group of shoppers started running.” Davis said the people opened a door leading back to the mall, allowing them to escape. She left her car in the parking lot overnight while she ran to safety. “It was immediate panic,” Davis said. “You heard a mother crying for her son. And it was so surreal.” Solano Town Center announced it canceled its planned Mall-O-Ween trick-or-treating event in light of the shooting. However, the mall was open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Spirit Halloween said the store would remain closed until further notice “out of respect for those affected and to support the ongoing investigation.” “We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred inside the Solano Town Center at the Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield, CA,” Spirit Halloween said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims of this heartbreaking incident. We are cooperating fully with local authorities as they investigate the circumstances surrounding this event. As this remains an active investigation, we defer to the Fairfield Police Department for further details.” FBI Sacramento said it was deploying its Evidence Response Team to assist Fairfield police with the investigation. Other law enforcement agencies that responded included Suisun City Police and the California Highway Patrol.
